PS. Jonathan Mueke

Jonathan Mueke, Principal Secretary for the State Department for Livestock Development, is leading Kenya’s livestock sector into a new era of innovation and inclusivity. With over 25 years of leadership experience in both public and private sectors—including serving as Nairobi’s first Deputy Governor—Mueke brings a strategic vision to the ministry.

His agenda focuses on transforming pastoral economies through cooperative aggregation models, livestock insurance schemes, disease control initiatives, and value chain development in beef, dairy, and leather industries. Mueke has been instrumental in launching the African Pastoral Markets Development platform and advancing legislation like the Livestock Bill, 2024, aimed at boosting commercial livestock farming. Through partnerships and infrastructure projects such as the Kenya Leather Industrial Park, he is positioning livestock as a key driver of rural prosperity and national economic growth.
